Enjoy the Festivities – June 16 in Hutchinson

The Watercarnival Bike Ride is an official event of the Hutchinson Water Carnival, which will be celebrating its 70th year in 2012. The Watercarnival is a week long celebration of summer, sponsored by the Hutchinson Jaycees, with events scheduled each day between June 11th and 17th. On Saturday, June 16th, in addition to the bike ride, there are other events and celebrations scheduled around town. Enjoy bicycling thru the scenic lake country around Hutchinson, and enjoy the other Watercarnival festivities.

Advanced Registration in Three Convenient Ways

Check back soon for updated registration information . . . . .

Support Great Causes

The Watercarnival Bike Ride is sponsored by the Hutchinson Rotary Club and Outdoor Motion Bike Shop. Proceeds from the bike ride go to Rotary Club local and international projects including scholarships, literacy, clean water, and polio eradication.

Hutchinson is an easy one hour drive west of the Twin Cities on Hwy 7, one hour south of St. Cloud on Hwy 15, or 45 minutes north of New Ulm on Hwy 15

Ride One of Two Great Rides

The Watercarnival Bike Ride offers two very scenic, enjoyable rides:

20 mile ride
Bike from town to a rest stop in Piepenberg County Park, on Belle Lake. Then loop thru part of the lake country, and return to town on a route that includes biking along the Crow River on the Luce Line trail.

65 mile ride
Follow the same route at the 20 mile ride from town to the Piepenberg rest stop. Then turn north and travel thru much of the scenic lake country and pass thru the towns of Dassel and Litchfield, before returning back to Hutchinson. This route also includes biking along the Crow River on the Luce Line trail, and includes two additional rest stops.

It’s time to start thinking about the Water Carnival Bike Ride! There is a bike committee meeting scheduled for Friday, December 16th at 10 a.m. at Outdoor Motion, 141 Main Street South. If you are not on the committee, but would like to help, you are welcome at this meeting!

We had many positive comments from last year’s bike riders. Let’s work together to make this year’s ride an even bigger success!

Rotary Christmas Party

November 14, 2011 by CarlaR 1 Comment

It’s time to celebrate and socialize with your fellow Rotarians and spouses (or significant others). We have planned a special holiday event for Wednesday, December 14 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. We will NOT have a white elephant gift exchange at this event. Joanie’s Catering will provide us with delicious hors d’oeuvres for the event which will be held at the new Crow River Winery on Highway 7 East in Hutchinson. Cost of the event is $10/person which will include hors do’oeuvres and 3 wine tastings from the winery. (They currently have 15-20 different types of wine!) If you don’t wish to have any wine, cost is $5/person.

Please RSVP to wendling@hutchtel.net no later than December 7 if you can or cannot attend and whether you will be participating in the wine tasting as well.

Thank you! We hope everyone can attend!

Welcome, Kate!

October 26, 2011 by CarlaR 1 Comment

DaSeul (Kate) Kang is Hutchinson Rotary’s current foreign exchange student from Anyang, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Kate turned 18 shortly after her arrival in Minnesota, and she is currently in the 11th grade at New Century Academy. Kate’s interests include photography and music. Kate joined the “School of Rock” where she gets to play her ukulele and write music with a group of peers and local musician Jason Schooler. Kate is also getting ready to compete on the school’s Math League Team.

Since her arrival in Minnesota, Kate has attended the Renaissance Festival, shopped at the Mall of America, and of course, toured the World’s Largest Ball of Twine in Darwin. Kate has had the opportunity to fish and kayak for the first time on a Minnesota Lake, make lefse with her host family, and ride with pheasant hunting in western South Dakota.

Kate has presented to Hutchinson Rotary once already, during an October meeting. She will present again in a few months, which you’ll want to make sure to attend. Kate brought many interesting pictures, stories, and information with her to share with her new friends. She is willing to share her culture with others, and has made many ethnic Korean dishes for her host family and friends at school, including Korean sushi, kim chi, and barbequed beef and chicken dishes.

Isabelle (host sister) and Kate

Kate will be in Hutchinson from August 2011 until June 2012, staying with three host families. Her current host family is Steve and Beth Gasser.

If you would like more information about the foreign exchange program or are interested in being a host family in the future, please contact Joel Kraft.
