Japanese Supper for Rotarians

January 7, 2013 by CarlaR Leave a Comment

Yui is interested in going on the spring E-term trip to New York with the exchange students, but needs to raise some money to do this.  Steve and Beth offered their home to host a fun, ethnic Japanese supper. All the money raised will go towards funding the trip for Yui and this will also be an excellent chance to get to know Yui better and become more familiar with the exchange student program.

The Japanese dinner is scheduled for Saturday, February 2nd at 6 p.m.  The evening will include a lovely traditional Japanese meal.  Reservations are required as seating is limited.  The cost is $20 per person.

I have attached the formal invitation which includes the menu for the evening.  If you are interested in attending, please call 234-9532 or email beth@vimm.com.  Thank you in advance for your support of this program!  Yui Japanese Meal.pdf

A Busy Schedule Ahead……

October 11, 2012 by CarlaR Leave a Comment

A sign up schedule is included and will also be sent around at the regular weekly meeting. Please try to help us make this event successful! Thank you!  Warm Coats Sign Up 2012 (pdf)

Super Meeting. A super meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 18. Hutchinson has been named “Minnesota’s Manufacturing City” because of the large percentage of our population who work in manufacturing industries. Because of this, it is very important that we understand the revolution that manufacturing is about to undergo.

Do you remember the “replicator” on Star Trek that could make any food a crew member wanted? This technology is becoming a reality, except it’s not just food but almost any object imaginable that can be created using a 3D printer. For example,Airbus is actively studying how to build a 3D printer large enough to print an entire airplane. NASA is studying launching a 3D printer to construct aircraft in space. Private companies are developing 3D printers that use a person’s blood to print a new heart, kidney or other organ for transplantation. While these examples are still years in the future, 3D printers are already cost-effective for making many types of objects.

At the October 18 meeting, we will have an operating 3D printer demonstrating how it works and we will have a presentation from three industry experts on the capabilities of digital design and 3D printers:

•Colin Clark, Hometown Investments and Cloud Event Processing

•Matt Havekost, Advanced Technology Systems (St. Paul)

•Rob Lambrecht, Alignex

Please invite anyone who you think may be interested in learning about this fascinating new technology. Each Rotarian is asked to bring at least one guest. At the October 11 meeting, we will be asking for a count of expected attendance; if you are not going to be at the October 11 meeting, please make sure someone who is attending has your guest count. Thank you!

Annual Rose Sale. Information for the annual rose will be handed out at this week’s meeting. A poster and sign up is posted here. The roses will be here on Thursday, November 1. We are hoping each Rotarian is able to sell 10 dozen roses/fall bouquets. If we can order at least 400 dozen, we get a substantial price break. Please help us with this fund raiser! It’s a great gift for all those deer widows! :)   2012 Rose Sale Poster (pdf) Rose Sale Sign up (pdf)

Ethics Workshop. The Ethics Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 7:00am – 2:20pm.. We have invited 48 high school students to attend the workshop held at the Crow River Golf Club.

We need 8 Rotarians to volunteer as table supervisors for the workshop. Anyone interested to learn more about the workshop and/or the volunteer opportunity should contact Dean Winter, Tracy Hassan, or Sara Turrell.

Warm Heads, Warm Hands, Warm Hearts. We will be purchasing hats and mittens again to donate to the schools and Common Cup. We will have the mittens at the Thursday, November 15th meeting. Please plan to stay a couple of minutes after the meeting to organize and bag them for delivery.
