Rotary Sampler
The Hutchinson Rotary Club will be hosting its 7th annual spring fundraiser on Friday, April 30th at the Hutchinson Event Center. This year we are hosting an international sampler with wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres. We will also be raffling off a vacation voucher for $5000 or $4000 cash. Contact your local Rotarian for more information.
Bowl-a-thon
The Rotary club of Hutchinson raised $3,700 for the Rotary Foundation’s $200 Million Challenge at their first ever bowl-a-thon held on Sunday, September 20th at the Hutch Bowl. Fifty-five bowlers participated on twelve teams for the event.
The idea for the bowl-a-thon grew out of a desire to not only meet the club’s commitment to the $200 Million Challenge, but to raise awareness of Rotary’s role in polio eradication and have some fun doing it. At the heart of the event’s success was careful planning by the bowl-a-thon committee. Committee co-chairs, Rick Heidick and Randy Anderson, created a detailed spreadsheet used to project net proceeds in a variety of scenarios. They presented their projections to the board, and everyone agreed that the event had all the ingredients for success – fun, fellowship, and food!
Club members recruited teams of 4-5 bowlers, and each team paid a $100 entry fee that included all bowling fees, prizes and a burger bar buffet. One member recruited four members of his Boy Scout Troop while others got family members and friends involved. Team members were given pledge sheets and asked to secure pledges – either per pin or outright. Each team member also received a flyer that detailed Rotary’s commitment to ending polio and explained the $200 Million Challenge from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Donated prizes included gift cards to merchandise, and the local 3M plant provided bags of great 3M products for all participants. The community website provided publicity for the event, and pledges came in from a broad cross-section of the community. Everyone agrees that a second annual bowl-a-thon can raise even more for club service projects and there is no question that it’s a great way to bring Rotarians, friends, family and the community together for fun.
